Carmel Mountain Ranch, also called simply Carmel Mountains by locals, sits in northern San Diego County near Rancho Bernardo and Rancho Penasquitos. Other neighboring communities include Poway, to the east, and Sabre Springs to the south. This bedroom community is called home by around 12,000 San Diegans.

Carmel Mountain Ranch is just miles from the Black Mountain Open Space Park, which is replete with hiking trails and a mountain summit more than 1,500 feet above sea level. The Blue Sky Ecological Reserve, maintained by the city of Poway, is just 7 miles away and offers a 700 acre canyon wealthy in animal and plant life.
The community is served by the Poway Unified School District. Schools that accept students from Carmel Mountain Ranch include Highland Ranch Elementary, Bernardo Heights Middle School, and Rancho Bernardo High School.
