The Bonsall community is in one of the unincorporated areas within San Diego County, and is considered a planned community. Nestled in North County, Bonsall covers almost 33 square miles to the north of the city of Vista. To the north of Bonsall is Fallbrook, and Oceanside sits to the west. You can reach downtown San Diego within about 40 miles of south Bonsall.
This community sits at the foothills of the Penninsular Mountain Range, and is characterized by rolling hills and valleys. Bonsall is a horse-friendly town. The plethora of open space in the community makes it a popular place for stables, equestrian centers, and private ranch homes that are set up for raising horses. Equestrian centers offer jump and show training; centers in Bonsall include the Rising Phoenix Equine Center and Silver Sunset Farms.
Also of note in Bonsall is the San Luis Rey Downs golf course. This 18-hole par 72 course spans across more than 6,700 yards. The course has a pro shop on site, a golf school, and a hotel and restaurant on the property.
Bonsall is served by two school districts. Students attend one of the schools in the Bonsall Union School District for elementary and middle school. For high school, students go to a school in the Fallbrook Union High School District.
