The 53-acre 4S Ranch neighborhood sits just two miles west of Interstate 15, and is bordered by Rancho Santa Fe on the west and Rancho Bernardo on the east. The northern boundary of 4S Ranch is created by Lake Hodges.

4S Ranch is a family-oriented community that prides itself on its youth activities and facilities. The neighborhood has a Boys and Girls Club, 22-acre community park with athletic fields and a roller skating rink, and day care center within the 4S Commons Town Center. The community was designed to be compact, so that residents can reach everything they need either on foot or within a short drive.

You can find biking and hiking trails in the southwest, northwest, and northeast corners of 4S Ranch. The Black Mountain Open Space Park sits just to the south of 4S Ranch, and includes hills, ridges, and canyons. On a day with clear skies, you can see the California coast from the Black Mountain summit.

Other attractions near 4S Ranch include the San Diego Wild Animal Park, 11 miles to the northeast, and the Elfin Forest Recreational Preserve 9 miles to the northwest. Downtown San Diego is 24 miles to the south, or about 30 minutes by car.

4S Ranch is served by the Poway Unified School District. Schools that accept students from the 4S Ranch community include Stone Ranch Elementary, Oak Valley Middle School, and Del Norte High School. Nearby private schools include Maranatha Christian and La Petite Academy.
